Are You The One, Ex on the Beach are both returning

MTV’s Are You The One disappeared three years ago, after its eighth season, subtitled “Come One, Come All” because it had a sexually fluid and diverse cast.

Ex on the Beach’s fourth season ended two years ago, and the UK version last aired a season in 2018, because it cancelled its 10th season after one of its cast members died.

Now, both shows are returning. MTV will air two new seasons of Ex on the Beach, with the first airing later this month.

Are You The One will return on Paramount+, and apparently go back to its original format of having men and women try to find their alleged “perfect match.”

Are You The One? Global Edition

Paramount+ is reviving Are You The One, and while it will draw cast members from around the world—the working title is Are You The One? Global Editionit’s now casting for 11 men and 11 women.

It seems as though it’s returning to straight couples; I asked Paramount+ for confirmation, but they have not responded.

Paramount+’s announcement for Are You The One: Global Edition wanted credit for the last season, saying it:

“…broke barriers with its U.S. edition when it became the first sexually fluid reality dating competition show in the nation. From coming-out moments to discoveries of sexual and gender identity, it told powerful stories about navigating relationships and finding love as a sexually fluid individual for the first time ever on a reality dating show.”

AYTO’s sexually fluid cast made the game more complicated and made the show more interesting, so it’s disappointing that the show is just returning to the boring old template that every other dating show uses.

Paramount+ says the show will be produced “later this year,” and it’s not yet clear when it’ll premiere, though it’ll be on Paramount+ only.

The format is identical to the MTV version:

In the most ambitious dating experiment ever attempted, 22 recently single men and women from around the globe will be put through an extensive matchmaking process to find their “Perfect Match.” Hailing from around the world and living together under one roof at an international location, these singles will have one shared goal: to find “the one.” Each week, the singles will have an opportunity to find their match, and if they can identify all 11 couples at the same time, they’ll split a massive cash prize.

Ex On The Beach season five will premiere March 31. MTV also renewed it for a sixth season, but did not say when that season will air, or if it’s been filmed.

Season five was “filmed at MTV’s global production villa on the Gran Canaria Island of Spain,” the press release said, and features “romantically embattled stars from Love Island, Big Brother, Too Hot To Handle, World of Dance, The Challenge, Double Shot at Love and Paradise Hotel“.

The cast members include Amazing Race 33 cast members Ray and Caro, who didn’t return when the show resumed production because their relationship ended.

Here are those cast members—and their exes, with links to their social media provided by MTV:

So EOTB5 filmed from July-August of 2021, so they've had that in the can for awhile now. They have not started filming EOTB6. (Source Vevmo)

I'm definitely going to watch Ex On The Beach. It will feel like a reunion since I know so many of the cast from watching BB & Love Island!
