Masked Singer Survivor 40 Survivor Island of the Idols

When The Masked Singer seasons two—and three!—will air, and face off against Survivor (probably)

Fox’s hit reality competition The Masked Singer will be back for season two this fall, and it will air Wednesdays at 8, which means that it’s opposite CBS’ Survivor.

While CBS has not yet announced its fall schedule, and could potentially move Survivor, the show has dominated in that timeslot for years, and I’d be very surprised if it moved, even with this new competition.

While head-to-head competition isn’t as significant as it once was, thanks to DVRs, it seems like Fox is trying to do some damage to CBS. Or perhaps they’ll damage their own show by putting it up against one of the most formidable and consistently high-performing reality TV competitions.

If The Masked Singer draws a similar audience to what it had earlier this year, there will be fierce competition: On the night that Survivor: Edge of Extinction premiered in February, its ratings were lower:

  • Survivor: 7.76 million viewers and a 1.6 rating among people 18 to 49
  • Masked Singer: 8.22 million viewers and a 2.6 rating among people 18 to 49

The Masked Singer is the only reality TV show Fox will have on its prime-time schedule this fall, unless you count WWE’s Smackdown Live, which I do not.

Fox has also renewed The Masked Singer for season three, which will premiere after the Super Bowl next year—on Feb. 2, 2020.

It will then air Wednesdays at 8, meaning Survivor season 40, the season that will have all winners competing, will face off against it all year long.

Fox announced one other new reality TV show today: Ultimate Tag, which is, yes, a game of tag turned into a competition.

Fox described it as “a high-octane physical competition show based on the classic playground game of chase.”

Brothers and football players JJ, TJ, and Derek Watt will be the hosts. (Three hosts!)
