A Bachelor special, a royal engagement, and more reality TV for Dec. 11 to 17

We’re halfway through December, and that means it’s time to preview 2018—which is what ABC is doing tonight with a Bachelor special you can read about below.

Some reality shows are returning and/or debuting this week, starting with season two of Netflix’s first competition reality series, Ultimate Beastmaster (Dec. 14), which is very similar to American Ninja Warrior.

Also back this week is Little Women: Atlanta (Lifetime, Wednesdays at 9) followed by a new spin-off series, Little Women: Terra’s Big House (Lifetime, Wednesdays at 10), on which Terra renovates her first home.

It’s the holidays and time for food and drink, so not a bad time for a new season of The Best Thing I Ever Ate (Cooking Channel, Mondays at 8).

Who is Arie? A Bachelor special reminds us

The Bachelor returns on the very first day of next year, but that’s not soon enough for ABC, which is airing “a one-hour special season preview” tonight titled The Bachelor: Countdown to Arie.

Who knew there’d ever be a countdown to Arie Luyendyk Jr.?

While the special will include a montage of the “Worst Kisses in Bachelor History” and “[c]heck in with the most popular Bachelor and Bachelorette couples for the latest on their love stories,” it seems like it’s mostly designed to remind Bachelor Nation who Arie is and why they should care about him now, with a recap of his time on The Bachelorette.

Here’s how ABC describes it:

“Travel back to Arie’s memorable journey to find love with one of America’s favorite Bachelorettes, Emily Maynard (now Emily Maynard Johnson). Five years ago, Arie fell madly in love with Emily and was ready to get down on one knee to propose when his heart was broken. Relive one of the most heart-wrenching breakups in Bachelor history and discover how Arie finally got closure.”

Harry + Meghan, on TLC

It’s been just over two weeks since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle said they were engaged, and TLC has managed to churn out “a one-hour special chronicling Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s romantic journey from courtship to proposal.”

When Harry Met Meghan: A Royal Engagement (TLC, Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 9) “introduces the early childhoods of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as they shared several parallels in their upbringing” and also “explores Meghan’s background as a biracial divorcee and her role as a human rights ambassador.”
