How to stay connected, avoid FOMO, and have a wonderful day

FOMO—fear of missing out—is stupid, because what should matter is what’s right in front of us, right now, so we can enjoy that thing. But in our information-dense, 24/7 world, it sometimes feels unavoidable, that sinking feeling that we should be watching, or reading, or doing something else.

So here’s a periodic reminder about ways to connect with reality blurred, so you can relax and not worry about missing a story if you haven’t had an opportunity to check the site every 90 seconds, which I totally understand.

The best way to do that:

  1. Subscribe to Reality in Focus, the newsletter I send every Friday. It’s free, and it covers everything I’ve written from the past week and more. Plus occasional GIFs.

Other things you can do:

  1. Follow me on the Facemonster and the Twithole, as I’ve sometimes come to think of them as they demand more and more of my attention.
  2. Tell me to write about, such as a show you’re already watching and love and want more people to see. That’s one perk of becoming a patron, where you’ll have get access to behind-the-scenes content, and help influence some of what I write about here. You’ll also help keep reality blurred alive, and have my full gratitude. Learn more.

I hope you have a wonderful Friday. Help make it a great day by starting—or ending—it with a few minutes of watching Icelandic kittens play. They’re on four, 24/7 live feeds.

It’s wonderfully relaxing, even if you’re a dog person.
