The revival of Trading Spaces has started casting, and from the casting announcement, the new version of the show seems like it’s sticking to the original formula.
The casting application, at tradingspacescasting.com, says those selected will “work with our team of expert designers and contractors to create a new space for your neighbors to enjoy”—or, you know, cry about until they can unglue all the hay from their living room walls or unscrew the metal shards screwed to the wall in the kids’ room.
And just to be clear that’s what will probably happen, TLC’s press release says “The fun part? Each of the home owners do not have any input in the design process or outcome.”
There’s still no word who the designers, carpenters, or host will be—but hopefully TLC will bring back some of the original team.
How to apply for the new Trading Spaces
The application says participants need to be available “August 1, 2016 through December 31, 2016,” and I assume the year is a typo and means that production will take place later this summer through December of this year.
Neighbors have to apply together, and cannot live more than a quarter mile from each other, though the show will give “preference to those that live next door to one another.” Everyone must own their houses and “have a preexisting relationship with the team they wish to trade spaces with.”
Besides filling out a form and answering basic questions, the application asks for a video with both teams that gives a lot of direction, including to “Enthusiastically explain why you would be the perfect neighbors for the show! We love to see personality, so have fun with this!” and “Give a statement saying the words, ‘Pick Us!’ Be convincing and put your own spin on it.”
