VH1’s reboot of America’s Next Top Model has revealed its new host and panel of judges. The show, which just started filming in New York, will feature only female contestants, and add a new challenge every episode focused on popular culture.
Singer Rita Ora, who has been a judge on The X Factor UK and a coach on the UK’s version of The Voice, will host the show. The judging panel consists of Ashley Graham, a model; Drew Elliott, Paper Magazine’s chief creative officer; and Lew Roach, a stylist.
Earlier this year, Graham became the first plus-size model to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit issue. Elliott was responsible for the Kim Kardashian “Break the Internet” champagne cover.
Tyra Banks will appear on the new Top Model
VH1 and Logo’s president, Chris McCarthy, told USA TODAY that “what we wanted to do was really infuse that panel with style fashion and pop culture experts” who “collectively have the power of what is driving fashion and pop culture today.”
While Tyra Banks, who’s executive producing the show, said she’ll be on the show only for “a couple of appearances,” she still talks about herself as the person who will be searching for models. “My goal is to really get into these girls’ heads that I’m not looking for some successful model and I’m not looking for some social-media star. I’m looking for both. I’m looking for a hybrid, because that’s where the world is,” she told USA TODAY.
She also told the paper that when Top Model was cancelled, “I thought we were done with the brand. But the fact that the brand still has viability, and that VH1 really truly sees a strong future with it, how could I say no to that?”
