Amanda Wirtz and Emily Fontano are hilarious improvisers who happen to be best friends, and their exceptional chemistry and acting abilities are evident on stage and in their podcast. They also love reality television—last week’s episode was all about House Hunters—so that’s mostly what we talked about when I was their first podcast guest, in episode six, which you can listen to below.
Among other things, you’ll hear us improvise scenes from Kid Nation and Frontier House, and talk about some of my more colorful experiences covering this genre, one of which I’ve never discussed publicly, and others that you’ve read about here, such as this story and this story.
Amanda and Emily also quizzed me, describing shows and asking me whether they were real or not. You can play along and see if you can beat me, which shouldn’t be too difficult. I’m not entirely proud of my performance (oh, Vanilla Ice!), but I was super-impressed by some of their fake show ideas, and confident that some of these not-real shows that tricked me will find their way to television.
It was a blast to join them, and I hope you’ll enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed recording it.
