Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone’s appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last week had a great bit that played homage to Food Network’s Chopped, a favorite show of the couple, along with “house shows,” which I assume means this.
As Stephen Colbert observes, the one-hour running time of Chopped is too long. And there’s all that filler, too—the judges having to find good and bad things about everyone’s dish, walking down the hallway.
In order to recreate the show, Colbert says, “We would have to take everything that happens in Chopped and smoosh it down.” So they do, baskets and all, with a one-minute round of cooking. The results are hilarious, and what’s clear is that more time pressure on increases the entertainment.
Whether it becomes a regular feature on The Late Show or Food Network’s first Vine series, let’s make this a real thing.
