Fox has not yet decided whether or not to bring So You Think You Can Dance back, but its executives, Dana Walden and Gary Newman, said this morning they hope to have season 13 on Fox this summer.
During their session at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, Walden said, “We’re not finished in our conversations with the producers, but we love the show and hope and anticipate it will be coming back.”
At this point last year, auditions were about to begin.
Executive producer and judge Nigel Lythgoe has been giving updates periodically, which have increased in their optimism.
In a December Reddit AMA, he wrote, “There certainly hasn’t been silence from Fox, we have been discussing the next series for a number of months and I hope to have some information by the end of this week.”
No news came. On New Year’s Eve, Lythgoe tweeted “stop worrying all you SYTYCD fans.”
That was a change from early November, when his tweets sounded more pessimistic. Nigel tweeted, “Still no news regarding #SYTYCD. Sorry. We are waiting to hear from FOX.”
Update Jan. 15, 4 p.m. PT: This story was updated to include Walden’s full quote from the official press conference transcript.
