ABC’s new reality exec, Rob Mills, comes from within

ABCABC has its new reality TV executive: Robert Mills, who’s been in ABC’s alternative division since 2003, and tweets regularly about shows he oversees, including The Bachelor.

In a press release announcing Rob’s promotion to senior vice president of alternative series, specials and late-night programming for ABC Entertainment (whew!), ABC’s entertainment president, Paul Lee, said:

“Rob is a passionate and creative executive with strong leadership skills. His instincts and unparalleled knowledge of pop culture are certain to help invigorate our fantastic reality team.”

He’s been the interim head of the department since late last fall; his predecessor Lisa Berger was hired in 2013, replacing John Saade, but she only lasted a little more than a year.

Deadline points out that he’s “well liked within ABC and in the reality TV community.” I can attest to this; in my limited interaction with him, he’s been the opposite of what one would expect from a TV executive, even when I haven’t been kind.

Rob is perhaps best known for developing The Bachelor, and he oversees production of Shark TankDancing with the StarsThe Taste, and other series, including specials such as Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest. The press release doesn’t mention The Quest, but he oversaw that, too.
