The Discovery Channel has responded to a petition signed by more than 34,000 people that asks for the return of fired Mythbusters Kari Byron, Tory Belleci and Grant Imahara.

The petition calls their departure “a huge step backward for Discovery” noting that “as the main female Mythbuster, Kari inspired a generation of girls and showed them that they, too, had a place in the traditionally male-dominated world of science”; it also points out that “Grant, the sole person of color on the show, [was] dropped as well.”

Discovery’s response does not suggest they’ll be back on the show. The network said in one-sentence statement to The Hollywood Reporter:

“We are all big fans of Kari as well as Tory and Grant and are looking for other projects where we can work with them.”
