Reality TV Emmy nominations: nearly identical to last year

Neil Patrick Harris, who announced the Emmy nominations with Aaron Paul and will host the telecast, pretty much summed up the reality category nominations with his awesome, sarcastic reaction to The Amazing Race‘s nomination: “shocker.”

Yes, the two major reality categories–which will be awarded on the prime-time telecast–are nearly identical to last year, including even Betty White’s baffling nomination as host for a show on which she does not do any hosting. (I love Betty White, but please.) The only difference is that Phil Keoghan did not get nominated; in his place, both Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn earned a joint nomination.

So, it’s the usual display of contempt for reality television from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Here are the two major reality categories along with the other two program-specific categories; I’ll update later today after combing through the technical nominations to see what reality shows earned nominations there.

Update: Here’s the list of nominees whose awards will be presented at the Creative Arts Emmy ceremony. These are reality TV-related categories and include only documentary or reality TV nominees. See the full list of nominations [PDF] for other nominees or to see specific episodes that were nominated.
