Randy Jackson quitting American Idol; Nigel Lythgoe, other judges may be fired, too

Randy Jackson, the last remaining original judge, is leaving American Idol after 12 seasons. His confirmation of his exit came after a report that said all four judges would be fired next season along with executive producer Nigel Lythgoe.

Both stories come at the end of a massively disappointing season that’s spawned wild rumors and had such relatively low ratings that The Voice is now TV’s top reality competition.

Randy told E! News,

“Yo! Yo! Yo! To put all of the speculation to the rest, after 12 years of judging on American Idol I have decided it is time to leave after this season. I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry. It’s been a life changing opportunity but I am looking forward to focusing on my company Dream Merchant 21 and other business ventures.”
