You’d think that Real Housewives of New Jersey cast member Danielle Staub is tired of public scrutiny after having her criminal past exposed in gritty, raw detail and an ex-boyfriend threaten to release a sex tape, never mind someone flipping a table over her. But no: She’s considering a run for Congress.
“At this point Ms. Staub is fielding numerous offers and has ruled out nothing. Her advisors will be discussing her future shortly,” her new spokesperson and Republican strategist Thom Ammirato told Politicker NJ. Asked if she’s a Republican, he said, “I don’t know, but she can become one. She would have to of course meet with the approval of (Passaic County GOP) Chairman Scott Rumana to see if she could get the line.”
However, he later all but dismissed that suggestion, telling a reporter for the Star-Ledger, “I don’t see that happening. It would be the longest of political longshots … unless there’s a huge groundswell.”
That seems, well, unlikely–although maybe the other housewives from her season will get together and raise money for her in order to get her out of their lives and future seasons of the show?
As to her sex tape, Danielle sued her ex-boyfriend Steve Zalewski, who told a tabloid that he was going to sell sex tapes he has of her. State Superior Court Judge Thomas F. Brogan “granted Danielle Staub’s request for a temporary restraining order to stop” the release and “also ordered Zalewski to produce all copies of the video and pictures of Staub, and he set a hearing for July 21,” the AP reports. Danielle “also filed a lawsuit against Zalewski seeking damages for invasion of privacy, defamation and infliction of emotional distress.”
Outside the courthouse, Danielle told reporters, “This is about my kids. I’m a big girl. Do what you want to me. But you broke bread with my children. Don’t do this to me. No adult should ever do this to a child.” Sort of like the way no adult should start a fight while insisting her kids stay in the room?
Danielle also told reporters, according to the Herald News, “I was in a relationship. Period. It should have stayed that way. Period. My private moments should remain just that — private.”
Except, of course, when cameras are around to tape them. It seems like Danielle has a bit of a hypocrisy issue–she’ll make a perfect politician.
