A&E has ordered a pilot for a new Ice Cube-produced and -hosted series that follows “a reformed gang member, drug dealer or robber [who] agrees to take on the responsibility of helping people in similar circumstances (a relative, friend or even a stranger) turn their lives around,” Variety reports.
Ice Cube said in a statement that Good in the Hood, an hour-long series, “is a way to demonstrate what is going on in a positive way in the urban community.”
A&E VP Rob Sharenow says that “One of the most powerful elements in the show is the personal connection of the two subjects.” He notes that Ice Cube “comes from very difficult beginnings, growing up in a bad neighborhood in South Central L.A. He transformed his own life,” and now will help others do the same.
The show is also executive produced by The Biggest Loser‘s Dave Broome and Black. White.‘s Matt Alvarez.
