Next Great Champ will be previewed Thursday, debut Sept. 10; De La Hoya says he wishes NBC’s show “best of luck.”
FOX’s The Next Great Champ will officially debut Sept. 10, two months before NBC’s The Contender hits the airwaves. The series will be previewed this Thursday, though, during FOX’s second celebrity boxing special. Despite the rivalry between the two series, and NBC’s anger over concept plagiarism, Oscar De La Hoya says that he hopes the NBC series will do well. “Hopefully in the future with these shows–‘The Contender,’ which I wish them all the best of luck, and with ‘The Next Great Champ’–we’re going to… one day change the sport of boxing to have only one champion per weight class so it won’t be so confusing to a lot of fight fans.”
