L.A. Reid signs on as X Factor judge
Fox’s X Factor has its first judge besides Simon Cowell, and he is Antonio “L.A.” Reid, the former chair of Island Def Jam Music Group. Fox’s announcement pointed out that he has three Grammys and 33 number-one hits and “has launched some of the biggest acts in music, including Jay-Z, Mariah Carey, Justin Bieber, Kanye West, The Killers, Bon Jovi, Pink, Usher, Jennifer Lopez and Rihanna.”
Simon Cowell said “L.A. was my number one choice to sit alongside me on the show. In my opinion, he is one of the greatest ever music executives and of course a fantastic writer and producer.” And in the press release, Reid said, “I am proud to stand next to my dear friend Simon Cowell, one of the world’s most gifted and charismatic talent magnets. The X Factor provides an extraordinary opportunity for aspiring artists of every age and genre to showcase their unique talents. I truly look forward to discovering our next generation of superstars.”
Auditions begin March 27 in Los Angeles, so it’s likely the show will announce its other judges before then, unless those are just producer auditions, with auditions in front of judges and a live audience coming weeks or months later.
