Who Wants to be a Superhero 2 debuts tonight

The second season of the SciFi channel’s original reality series Who Wants to be a Superhero debuts tonight at 9 p.m. ET.

The show features wannabe superheros competing for a chance to appear in a comic book. This season features 10 contestants who call themselves names such as Parthenon, Braid, Hyper-Strike, Mindset, Hygena, and Mr. Mitzvah; they’ll participate in challenges that test their superhero attributes, such as “courage, integrity, self-sacrifice, compassion and resourcefulness,” according to the network.

Stan Lee hosts via television screen, reading from a telepromter and speaking so awkwardly to the contestants that he’s sometimes more entertaining than they are. In an interview with TV Guide, he’s asked about a challenge in which he “get[s] kidnapped and need[s] to be rescued.” Stan Lee says that he was game because “I’m a real ham. In fact, what do I need the contestants for?”

Lee also says that this season also features a few villains, although they are apparently not actual contestants like last season’s quasi-villain. “A lot of our viewers requested that we throw in a villain, and whatever the public wants we deliver. It’ll make the show a lot more fun and a little more comic-booky,” he says.
