Two of the mothers from Under One Roof have responded to an opinion piece in which the pseudonymed author wrote, “I found myself highly disturbed at the parent/child relationships I saw in most cases,” and asked, “is a house worth putting ones [sic] children through this?” Lyn Distel says her “kids had the choice whether to go or not” and says they “did not suffer any irreversible psychological damage as a result of participating in the show.” Michelle Hatmaker writes that “the experience … was a wonderful gift from UPN/Endemol” and says it “was a beautiful escape from a year of extreme sadness, grief, and stress” for her family.
