The UK has its Donald Trump: Leading the country’s version of The Apprentice will be Sir Alan Sugar, who founded Amstrad, and is “one of Britain’s 50 richest men, with an estimated œ700m fortune,” The Independent reports. The paper says “he is renowned for having one of the business world’s more abrasive personalities.” He beat out Richard Branson and Stelios Haji-Ioannou for the gig. The BBC’s version will be slightly different from the NBC version, the Financial Times reports, as it “will be modified to reflect Britain’s more reserved attitude to making money.” Executive producer Peter Moore tells the paper, “This is a series that tests entrepreneurial skills [while] at the same time acknowledging the British sensibility towards naked ambition and the accumulation of wealth.”
