Channel 4’s latest reality TV show is following 10 people as they try to stay awake for an entire week. The winner receives £100,000. The show, which began on Sunday, is controversial; as the BBC reports, “a pressure group said [the show] was exploiting its participants.” They might have had a problem with one challenge, “which featured contestants having to work their way through a series of doors, some of which had handles which gave them an electric shock.” A Channel 4 spokesperson said it was “an extremely mild electric pulse, which was not harmful.” It was too much for one 21-year-old contestant, who quit on Tuesday and is still “having trouble sleeping, Ananova reports.
