Simon Cowell creating The X Factor, a talent show for the young and old.
The age limit that keeps Pop Idol and American Idol contestants fresher than a Pop Tart in its foil bag. Simon Cowell is creating The X Factor for ITV, a show that will “appeal to somebody over the age of 35 who keeps saying to me there aren’t any artists I like in the competition,” Simon Cowell said. He’ll be one of three judges who “will divide finalists into three groups, with each judge in charge of preparing one group for the final.” The groups will include old people, young people, and people on substances—er, bands. Cowell says, “We’re trying to create a different competition.” The show is part of his two-year, £1.25 million deal with ITV.
