Jade Goody leaves Indian Big Brother after learning she has cancer
Jade Goody, the controversial UK Big Brother star, learned she had cervical cancer on her second day in the Bigg Boss house in India. She left the house last week and returned to the UK.
Her publicist told BBC News that “Jade had some tests recently, then she went off to India to appear in the Indian Big Brother,” and said that when her test results, from tests performed before she left for India, revealed her diagnosis, “We put the consultant in touch with the programme-maker in India and, because of the circumstances, [he] was allowed to speak to her and explain the results of her tests.”
She learned of her diagnosis in the Diary Room, which she left in tears, and then didn’t want to tell her fellow houseguests until telling her family. All of that, including part of her phone call with her doctor, was broadcast on TV last Tuesday. As the single-celled commenters on YouTube demonstrate, some horrible people apparently think she’s lying and/or deserve this because of her previous horrible behavior.
Jade became famous after appearing on the UK’s Big Brother in 2002, but in January 2007, appearing on the celebrity edition of the show, was one of the houseguests who bullied Indian actress Shilpa Shetty, and was seen making fun of Shetty’s accent and last name.
Shetty issued a statement to The Sun that said, “I was really sad when I heard the news. It’s a tough time for her and I hope she is able to cope with this pain.” On her way into the house, Jade said she was going on the show to redeem herself: “I’ve changed for the better and I’m here to prove it to you guys. I’m an entreprenuer and a mother of two; how bad can I be?”
