Subjects who watched UK Big Brother had increased “anxiety, depression and hostility”

A study in the UK found that watching Big Brother had severe consequences. Researchers at Glasgow Caledonian University watched the watchers, and found “alarming side effects in their mental health, including increased levels of anxiety, depression and hostility.” After watching just regular daytime television, the subjects “reported virtually no ill effects.”

They were forced to watch the show “for two hours a day for three days,” after which point they tried to gnaw off their own limbs to escape.
