Discovery’s Planet Earth encores alongside the debut of Fearless Planet tonight

Starting tonight, the Discovery Channel will encore its Emmy-winning series Planet Earth; two hour-long episodes air Sundays starting at 8 p.m. ET. After that, the network will debut Fearless Planet at 10, a six-episode series that follows Will Gadd’s extreme explorations of places such as the Grand Canyon and Great Barrier Reef.

On the new series, he’ll be “swimming with sharks along Australia’s Great Barrier Reef; base-jumping Venezuela’s Angel Falls, the world’s tallest waterfall; sand-skiing the Sahara Desert; and rappelling the Grand Canyon,” USA TODAY reports. But as the paper notes, the show “is more geological tour than action-adventure series, with computer-generated images showing how canyons, islands and natural wonders are formed.”

Also tonight, Animal Planet debuts In Steve’s Footsteps at 10 p.m. ET. The special is “the story of Terri’s first time at the helm of the landmark crocodile research work that Steve started many years ago and whose last trip finished only days before he died on September 4, 2006,” according to the network. It “looks at how Steve’s children, Bindi and Robert, are growing up into the world of their dad and learning more and more skills from their mother and grandfather.”
