Body image series airs on BBC America; True Hollywood Story Investigates hazing

Two documentaries debuted this weekend that examine the ways in which people work to be accepted by others, regardless of the consequences.

BBC America airs a five-episode Channel 4 documentary series about body image starting tonight with Super Skinny Me, which airs at 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. ET. The first hour “follows two journalists — Kate Spicer and Louise Burke — as they go on a no-holds-barred journey into the world of extreme dieting. … Supervised by a specialist medical team, Kate and Louise embark on this gruelling weight-loss experiment that stretches them to their physical and emotional limits and helps them understand why modern women obsess about being thin, their weight and food,” according to Channel 4.

Future episodes in the series include 476-lb Teenager, which airs next Sunday; My Small Breasts And I and My Big Breasts And Me, which air the following two weeks; and Teen Transsexual, which wraps up the series on Dec. 30.

Also this weekend, E! debuted a new True Hollywood Stories Investigates documentary, which airs this week on Monday at 12:30 a.m., Thursday at 9 p.m., and Friday at 9:30 a.m. It focuses on hazing from first-person perspectives, including interviews with those who’ve been hazed and actual video of hazing. As E! describes it, the show “investigates the world of hazing — from spankings and hosings to beatings and sexual assault, using never-before-seen video taken by participants.”
