Top Model 12, Make Me a Supermodel 2 debut tonight
Two modeling competitions return tonight for more drama on and off the catwalk.
The 12th cycle of Tyra Banks’ America’s Next Top Model debuts tonight at 8 p.m. ET on The CW. On it, Tyra will mentor 13 girls and teach them how to be like Tyra while they listen to Tyra talk about Tyra, at least before they appear on Tyra Banks’ talk show, The Tyra Banks Show, to talk to Tyra about why Tyra eliminated them from Tyra’s modeling competition.
Bravo brings back Make Me a Supermodel for a second season, and while the first season had a bromance and some other drama, it was pretty dreadful as a competition. But Bravo’s good at retooling series, as it did with the successful second season of Top Design, and for this season, they’ve made changes.
While wooden first-season host and judge Tyson Beckford remains, the show has dumped Niki Taylor and its judges, adding new judges and model Nicole Trunfio as a “mentor” for the female models. The 16 contestants will compete for $100,000, a modeling contract, and a pictoral in Cosmo, and although viewers chose one male and one female finalist, none of Bravo’s information about the new season says anything about viewer votes, so it seems that they’ve dropped the real-time format and weekly viewer voting, returning to the formula that their other competitions follow.
