ArchivesBravo’s Top Design is well into its second season, and its changes have definitely improved the series, although it’s still no Top Chef. The new producers have demoted Todd Oldham to mentor (although he’s now essentially useless, since he comes around so late in the process), adding India Hicks as host and judge (she’s wonderfully icy), and dumping that awful send-off line (although the new one—“We just can’t live with your design”—still leaves something to be desired).
One thing that hasn’t changed, however, are judge Kelly Wearstler’s crazy outfits and often insane hairstyles. Seriously, sometimes I do a triple-take, and I often cannot decide whether to laugh or be in awe. Look at some of her clothes and hairstyles from this season, which people grabbed and posted on Flickr:
Anyway, E!’s Marc Malkin asked her about her wardrobe, and Kelly gave an awesomely honest answer: “I never go out, but I have all these great outfits. So I was just like, Fuck it, I’m just going to wear them.”
Unbelievably, she also said that she doesn’t watch the show, and turned down her own reality series: “I don’t watch TV. I haven’t seen any of the Top Designs. I’m too scared and nervous. I’m shy — honestly!”
