Top Chef 2’s Josie beaten in anti-gay attack
Another Top Chef 2 contestant has been attacked. Josie Smith-Malave was leaving a Long Island bar during Labor Day, when she “was beaten by attackers yelling anti-gay slurs,” the AP reports.
Josie “was among a small group of women asked to leave a Sea Cliff bar over Labor Day weekend,” and “[a]bout 10 young people followed the women out and began screaming anti-gay epithets, spitting on them and then beating them,” according to the AP. They “suffered bruises, and one received injuries to her head. One of them had a camera taken in the attack.”
Josie “is openly gay, [her lawyer, Yetta] Kurland said. Her sister, who is straight, also was beaten. … Nassau County police said they were investigating, but they declined to provide details of the incident,” the Associated Press reported.
Earlier this year, season two contestant Marcel was hit in the face with a bottle by a show fan.
