Bravo’s shows mocked by SNL; Top Chef’s product placement mocked by The Onion

Top Chef’s increasing product placement has become the subject of satire in The Onion, while SNL parodied Bravo’s Real Housewives-style shows and their spin-offs.

The best part of The Onion’s video, below, is the cleverly edited Top Chef footage, which makes it both farcical and satirical. Yet it’s not that far off from reality despite being kind of crazy: the show really does have product placement-heavy challenges like this. However, the teaser that precedes the episode recap may be the most brutal and incisive satire in the clip.

Meanwhile, SNL last night parodied Bravo’s increasingly insane focus on docudramas that have spun off of other docudramas, or on people who know one knows or cares about (see Silicon Valley for one such example). The bit starts a little flat and predictable but really ramps up, and does an outstanding job of parodying Bravo’s promos.
