TLC “not pursuing any program” with octuplets mom Nadya Suleman
TLC said today it will not air a series with the octuplets, their mom, and their eight siblings, even though just days ago the network said it was considering doing so.
TLC’s president, Eileen O’Neill, said in a statement released today that “TLC is not pursuing any program at this time with Nadya Suleman. We wish the family well.”
O’Neill told Entertainment Weekly in its issue this week that the network had been contacted by production companies about an octuplets series and was “watching [the] story unfold,” but admitted that the network’s “audience is pretty vocal. There is a [waiting] period here to see if there’s something that we as a network feel makes good sense.”
Since 17 kids and no birth control and a parent of eight who regularly freaks out at her spouse both apparently make good sense to the network, as does a future series with a 12-person family, I can’t imagine what about the octuplets makes them so unappealing. It certainly can’t be the controversy, since that’s what their highest-rated show, Jon & Kate Plus 8, thrives on.
