Twitter now has the power to save a Voice contestant

Reality TV competitions’ use of social media to cast votes takes another step forward tomorrow tonight, as The Voice will allow people on Twitter to save a contestant from possible elimination.

The “instant save” will apply to the three people in danger of being sent home, and will only be active for five minutes. This doesn’t entirely screw over those watching on the west coast, because the bottom three will be revealed on the show’s Twitter account, and fans there can then tweet to save an artist.

Any tweet with #voicesave and the artist’s first name will count, and the person with the most saves will be safe; retweets count, too. Here’s Carson Daly explaining all of this:
