The Voice’s great promo wrecked by a Kardashians star
One of the best ads during the Super Bowl was a promo for The Voice’s second season, and it had a surprise ending that made it even better. Now, NBC has re-edited the same promo, and not very well, injecting another reality star, Bruce Jenner, in the place of Betty White.
It’s somewhat clever in that there’s a tie-in with the Olympics, and Bruce Jenner is moderately self-deprecating here, but nowhere near as funny as Betty White.
Part of what doesn’t work is the recycling: We already know what’s coming, and it seems cheap of NBC to not create a brand-new promo that’s equally as awesome. Also, the edits are weak: They clearly didn’t re-shoot the ending, and instead went with some unused footage of CeeLo and added a voice-over to identify Jenner—and it’s never a good sign if you have to say the joke/identify the allegedly famous person.
