Seventeen ugly women will “undergo physical, mental and emotional transformations with the help of a team of experts” in an attempt to transform themselves as FOX debuts The Swan tonight at 9 p.m. ET. The show, which will normally air Mondays at 9, will feature therapists, plastic surgeons, dentists and others helping to transform the women. Each week two women will be profiled and will face elimination from the series; the weekly winners will compete in a pageant. Hosted by Paradise Hotel’s Amanda Bynum, the show wasn’t available to critics for screening, but the LA Times’ Carina Chocano and the Chicago Sun-Times Phil Rosenthal (and others) offer responses to the series’ concept.
