However, that money didn’t help him make good on a promise to help out a charity. When the cast worked to “fix up an L.A. battered women’s shelter, he pledged $10,000 to the shelter,” the New York Daily News’ Lloyd Grove reports. Now, “[s]even months later, the Jenesee Center for Battered Women has yet to collect on the promised donation.”
Canseco’s lawyer, Robert Saunooke, says he can’t pay because “his assets have been frozen” due to a Miami jury’s judgment against him. Grove reports that “the shelter turned down Canseco’s offer to make a fund-raising appearance instead.”
