The Simple Life 3

The Simple Life 3 debuts tonight.
FOX unleashed Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie to wreak havoc on another region of the country, and the results debut tonight at 9 p.m. ET on FOX. The Simple Life 3: Interns has a subtitle that explains what Paris and Nicole will be doing, but really, we know by now that they just find new places for them to act like idiots and attempt to elicit laughs from us while they make fun of whoever they’re hanging out with. The show pretends to have them traveling around the country on a Greyhound and going from job to job, but since production started in October and is still continuing (as recently as Saturday, the show was still casting for host families), we’ve learned that they’re just jetting off to destroy some stuff and offend people before returning to their socialite lives. Critics seem to resent this series almost as much as I do, as nearly all of the reviews trash the series: The Hollywood Reporter says the series helps the girls “grow more pathetically inconsequential and annoying than they’ve already proven repeatedly to be,” The Boston Herald says that “Richie and Hilton have a lack of respect for their co-workers, their boss, the people they live with and, it would appear, themselves”; Reuters says “their gambit is no longer akin to watching a mere car crash but a full-on, man-made disaster, the unscripted television equivalent of nuclear core meltdown”; the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette says “Their post-prank contrition is forced and their alleged naivete about all things Middle America no longer amuses”; and the Charlotte Observer says the show once “was a dose of fresh air as a fish-out-of-water tale. Now that the fish has had an opportunity to ferment, it has an entirely different fragrance, rather like that of sharks swimming in sewage.”
