The Runner had “a host…of problems.”
In its Nov. 2 issue, Entertainment Weekly reports that The Runner had bigger problems than “the current entertainment environment,” which is what network officials cited when they pulled the show. According to the magazine, there were “a host of other problems, including budget overruns.” Plus, the logistics of the game—for example, how the runner would be protected—never became clear. In a related story, EW examines the reality TV ratings downturn, and finds “overstaturation” and “poor scheduling” to be partly to blame. The report also points out that despite its lower-than-expected ratings, The Amazing Race “posts better demographics than the movies CBS aired in its Wednesday time slot last year.”
