Knight-Ridder’s Sylvia Rector talks to The Restaurant’s Mama Dispirito, who she says “keeps me watching this contrived drama.” Mama says that she does indeed cook and hang out at the restaurant: “I am there every day. I make the meatballs, all the sauces, and I do whatever. A lot of people ask me if I do it, and I do.” After the piece calls Mama “the most real character on the whole show,” The Seattle Times kicks Rocco Dispirito in the meatballs by publishing the recipe for his mother’s famous food, so now there’s no reason at all to go to the restaurant. Mama’s Meatballs include beef, pork, and veal, plus Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, eggs, and red pepper flakes.
