Just in time for pre-premiere publicity for The Restaurant’s second season debut, Rocco DiSpirito has countersued his business partners. They sued him in February, saying Rocco “spent insufficient time on the food and service at the restaurant and has not devoted the time and effort needed to operate the restaurant in a financially responsible manner.” Among other things, Rocco’s suit says “they replaced fresh pasta with the frozen kind” and “changed the locks on the restaurant.” He wants $6 million in damages, saying he was “unlawfully squeezed out of his 50 percent interest in Rocco’s on 22nd Street, that his partners were abusing his name while benefiting from his notoriety, and that they have impaired morale at Rocco’s.” NBC’s promos for the new season, which begins Monday at 10 p.m. ET, frame it as a “battle” and “a major showdown between two culinary heavyweights.”
