Australia’s Ten aired a single episode of The Restaurant before yanking the series the next day and replacing it with The Simpsons. The one million viewers who began watching soon evaporated “as soon as they discovered Rocco was a classically neurotic New Yorker, obsessed with money and power, and not a bit like kindly cheerful [“Naked Chef”] Jamie” Oliver, according to The Syndey Morning Herald. A Ten spokesperson tells the paper, “We’re responsive—some things work, some don’t.” And because of “the scumbag factor,” as the paper calls it, Rocco won’t be working down under anytime soon.
