Restaurant taping over, may return.
NBC and Mark Burnett’s The Restaurant, which debuts on July 20 at 10 p.m. ET, concluded taping last Saturday, although NBC might decide to bring the cameras back, presumably if the show is a success. Before the cameras disappeared, Time’s James Poniewozik visited, and found that “the surveillance is near total: in addition to five camera crews weaving around the wait staff, there are cameras on the ceiling, over the bar and behind two-way mirrors.” Some patrons applied and became cast members as they ate; Burnett says of those patrons and the staff, many of whom were actors, “This cast would do great on Survivor, as far as dramatic television.”
+ also: chef and owner Rocco DiSpirito: “The fact that the restaurant opening is being shot is a good thing. Or it could be the biggest mistake of my life.”
