Restaurant opens despite liquor license, name problems; show debuts in July.
Mark Burnett’s other summer reality show, The Restaurant, won’t debut until July 20 at 10 p.m. on NBC, but the restaurant opened this week in New York. Called Rocco’s, the restaurant has received a cease-and-desist request from a Greenwich Village restaurant called Rocco Ristoante, which says the new restaurant’s name “infringes on the Rocco trademark,” according to Zap2it.com. Additionally, he restaurant opened with a temporary catering permits rather than a liquor license because of a problem with the application. The New York Post reports that New York’s SLA gave the show the temporary catering license “because we thought that the positive residual effects [of the show] would hopefully foster some economic growth for a food industry that is hurt badly in lower Manhattan.”
