Real World “proved to many that reality television could succeed in Las Vegas.”
Who knew that The Real World Las Vegas cast’s skanking up of The Palms a few years ago could have a positive effect on the town? The MTV show’s use of the casino actually helped transform other casinos’ attitudes about hosting such projects. After “some of the Strip’s biggest hotel-casinos refused to host” the show, its success “proved to many that reality television could succeed in Las Vegas,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. That’s because it “transformed the eventual host—the then fledgling, off-Strip Palms hotel-casino—into THE place for celebs and beautiful twentysomethings.” As a Nevada Film Office rep points out, “If they had to try and buy that kind of advertising, they wouldn’t be able to afford it. No one could.”
