Austin filming ends this week; show will bring $20 million in publicity to the city.
The Real World Austin is wrapping production this week, and the seven strangers will soon make the transition from unknown 20-somethings to people who make their livings as former Real World cast members. The cast got an early taste of media exposure with a visit from the Austin American-Statesman, which photographed the cast and talks to them about their experience. The city will also get new exposure; the Austin Film Office’s director says ” the estimated media value, in terms of publicity for Austin, is about $20 million.” So how did the cast handle themselves in Austin? Co-creator Jon Murray tells the paper, “The only difficulty we had was when an Austinite or a cast member had too much to drink. When young people drink too much, those few people who tend to be disagreeable are amplified.” And those people who produce MTV shows get very, very excited.
