As reality blurred reported early last week, reports from Texas suggested that Austin would be the next home of the grandparent of all reality shows, and official confirmation arrived, coincidentally, shortly after our report. The Real World Austin begins taping early next year, and will air next summer. That places the cast in Austin during the SXSW music and film festival, and its director tells the Austin American-Statesman that “we’ll figure into it somehow.” The house’s location is a secret, but of course we’ll soon know its location because it’s hard to disguise seven 20-somethings wandering around aimlessly and being followed by camera crews. (Some are suggesting it’s on or near sixth street.) The paper says “several jobs were still under consideration.” Creator and executive producer Jon Murray told the New York Post that the “Austin cast may be the best we’ve ever assembled,” so hopefully we’ll be in for a six-month drunken orgy.
