Real World’s ratings lead MTV to renew it for seasons 27 and 28
After its 25th season, The Real World won’t disappear like evidence of a gay porn star cast member’s gay sex, because MTV has renewed it for three more seasons, announcing the pick-ups of seasons 27 and 28 today. Season 26 is currently casting.
In its press release, MTV noted that the current season “has ranked #1 with [all people ages 12 to 34] in its time period across all of television,” and the second episode had ratings that were up “28% from the prior week’s season premiere” for a total of 2.2 million viewers.
That’s far fewer than Jersey Shore draws, but since more people in MTV’s demographic are interested in watching drunken hook-ups than any other 10 p.m. show on TV, it’s a success.
