Real World’s Mike “The Miz” Mizanin wins WWE championship

On WWE Raw Monday night, Mike “The Miz” Mizanin won the WWE’s championship, nearly 10 years after first gaining fame on MTV’s The Real World: Back to New York.

MTV News notes that when he appeared on the reality series in 2001, “Mizanin had been cultivating that personality because he had aspirations in the world of professional wrestling, and he scored his greatest achievement in that business on Monday night’s (November 22) episode of the WWE’s flagship show ‘Raw’ where he won the WWE Championship from Randy Orton.”

Here’s how the WWE describes his (of course scripted) win, not that this makes any sense at all: “After The Nexus attacked Randy Orton and he endured a match against Wade Barrett, The Miz cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on the vulnerable Viper to claim the WWE Championship.” There’s also a more detailed summary.

Mike retired from the Challenge shows in 2005 but went on to do shows like Celebrity Fear Factor, which he won. Earlier, he appeared on MTV’s WWE training series Tough Enough.

And now, The Miz is a champion who has his own action figure.
