Sean Duffy says he “struggles” with $174K salary in video Republicans want removed
The Real World Boston cast member and now member of Congress Sean Duffy told a constituent, “I struggle to meet my bills right now,” and said “At this point, I’m not living high off the hog,” even though he now makes $174,000 a year as a Representative. More hilariously, Republicans are trying to get the video removed from the Internet to prevent further embarrassment. One might have imagined that Sean would know something about the consequences of speaking in front of cameras.
Talking Points Memo runs down the Polk County, Wisconsin, Republicans’ efforts to get the video offline—and includes the clip they don’t want you to see. It starts with a constituent telling Sean, “174,000, that’s three times … what I make.” Sean then defends himself by saying he has six kids, which of course he was forced to produce, and insists, “I guarantee I have more debt than all of you.” It’s very awkward.
Sean’s spokesperson told the Wausau Daily Herald, “He was simply pointing out that he’s no stranger to tough times. … He’s serious about facing the fiscal crisis head-on, and he’s not interested in scoring cheap political points.”
