Agency that won The Pitch to College Hunks actually lost
The Pitch’s season premiere actually ended with an off-camera twist, because after filming ended, the company changed their mind and chose the losing agency.
The agencies pitched a company familiar to reality TV viewers: College Hunks Hauling Junk, which appeared on season one, episode one of Shark Tank to pitch their new business College Foxes Packing Boxes, an experience its president recently wrote about. Its founders were also on Bravo’s Millionaire Matchmaker.
Fletcher Rowley, the losing agency (and an agency best known for its work with Democratic political candidates), explained in a long post that “a few days later filming completed the College Hunks Hauling Junk and College Hunks Moving guys reached out to us and, ultimately, they hired us instead of the firm they selected on the show.”
Why? It’s not clear, nor is it clear why AMC didn’t explain that at the end of the episode, which actually included College Hunks’ founders discussing the strengths and weaknesses of each agency’s ideas. While Fletcher Rowley’s post praises the show’s producers, it also says:
“It’s a cautionary tale about some of the limitations of non-scripted television because if it doesn’t happen when the cameras are rolling then it didn’t happen. We had hoped that AMC and the producers might put a note to that effect at the end of the show but we understood when it was made clear to us that the show was edited and locked and they couldn’t make any changes. We were fine with that decision as long as we could tell the rest of the story after the show aired and that’s what we’re doing now.”
