The March 17 TV Guide has a bunch of reality TV stories. First, reporting on The Mole, the magazine quotes ABC’s alternative programming chief, who says the next season will include “more time on the players personally and less on the games.” (Why, dammit, why?) In a fairly typical feature titled “Are they for real,” there are a couple of revelations. Most notably, Dan Renzi, most recently of The Real World/Road Rules Extreme Challenge, says the cast was instructed to “ask for the Nokia,” not just for the cell phone. Why? Because that could lead to well-paying commercials, and Dan readily admits they “are such sellouts.” He also says that during the Challenge, an officer who yelled at them during the Navy episode came back sans cameras and apologized, saying said, “They told us to be really mean to you so it looks good on the show.” And finally, if you’ve been wanting to get down to the Survivor theme song in a dance club, now you can. The Ancient Voices Remixes CD is now out.
